Gin is a grain-based spirit most often flavoured with juniper berries. In it’s early days, gin was commonly believed to have medicinal properties and since it was cheap to produce, sailors found it more accessible than other spirits to take with them on their sea-fairing journeys.
When mixed with lime juice, it was also a way for them to help prevent scurvy. The name Triton was chosen as it’s the name for the greek god of the sea. It is also the name of a large sea shell found in the indo-pacific. While used in many cocktails, gin is most commonly mixed with tonic and with vermouth to make a martini.
